9 Prayers for the Coronavirus

Opening Prayer

How long, O Lord, will you forget me?

How long will you hide your face?

How long must I bear grief in my soul,

this sorrow in my heart day and night?

As for me, I trust in your merciful love.

Let my heart rejoice in your saving help:

Let me sing to the Lord for his goodness to me,

singing psalms to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

Psalm 13

Jesus, we know that you healed blind men, paralytics, and lepers. We believe that you exorcised demons and brought the dead back to life. We turn to you, our Divine Physician, now during this time of great trial and uncertainty. You see the suffering in each of our hearts, and we believe that you look upon us with pity. Lord, make haste to help us!

Day 1

Jesus, we pray for the members of our families, and our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are infected with the Coronavirus. Give them the peace of knowing they are always in the arms of their Savior.  Help them to unite their suffering to your Passion, and grant them physical healing.

St. Edmund, patron of pandemics, pray for us!

Day 2

Jesus, we pray for all who have died from the Coronavirus. May their souls rest in eternal peace and happiness in the light of your face. We pray also for all those in mourning. May they place their trust in your infinite mercy and find comfort in the promise of salvation.

St. Joseph, patron of happy deaths, pray for us!

Day 3

Jesus, we pray for all medical professionals who risk their lives to help those in need.

Grant them protection from the virus and the endurance to persevere in the face of such a daunting mission.  Allow them to be your healing hands and presence to the sick and suffering.

St. Raphael, patron of medical professionals, pray for us!

Day 4

Jesus, we pray for all who have lost their jobs or are at risk of being laid off.  Help them to rely completely on God to provide them with their daily bread. Console their anxious minds and inspire them to use their talents in new and creative ways.

St. Cajetan, patron of the unemployed, pray for us!

Day 5

Jesus, our shepherd, send your spirit upon our government and church leaders and guide them in their decision-making.  Bestow upon them both humility and the wisdom of Solomon so that they might lead rightly and without interest in political gain.

St. Thomas More, patron of political leaders, pray for us!

Day 6

Jesus, you experienced loneliness in the Garden of Gethsemane, when you faced your hour of suffering with no one to comfort you.  Be with all of us who are experiencing loneliness during this period of social distancing. Allow us to feel the warmth of your constant presence and give us the nudge we need to spend more time in prayer with you.

St. Rita of Cascia, patroness of loneliness, pray for us!

Day 7

Jesus, we pray for all women and men dealing with crisis pregnancies who are tempted to abort during this time of uncertainty.  In your divine providence, allow them to encounter good counsel and give them courage to make the life-giving decision.  Help them see how much you love them and their unborn children.

St. Gianna Molla, patroness of mothers and the unborn, pray for us!

Day 8

Jesus, you chose to perform your first miracle at a wedding, bringing significance to marriage celebrations.  We pray for all who have weddings planned in the coming months. Grant them wisdom to make the right call and trust in your divine plan.

St. Meinrad, patron of hospitality, pray for us!

Day 9

Jesus, we pray that during this pandemic, our faith may be perfected, as gold in a refiner's fire.  Teach us to place our trust in you and draw us closer to your heart. Help us to unite our suffering to your passion and look with hope to the resurrection.

Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us!

Closing Prayer

The Lord heard and took pity on me.

The Lord became my helper.

You have turned my weeping into dancing,

torn off my sackcloth and clothed me in joy,

It is my glory to sing to you and never cease:

Lord, my God, I will proclaim your goodness for ever.

Psalm 30

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen
